Outdoor STEM

Microschool

for Homeschoolers

A full-year, outdoor learning experience rooted in real science, real math, and real exploration.

From September through May, students step into the role of scientist—exploring Maine’s ecosystems, collecting real data, and building deep understanding through hands-on fieldwork and meaningful analysis.

This is not school as usual.

It’s learning that moves.

🌲 Program Structure

We offer small, cohort-based learning groups designed for both developmental readiness and meaningful collaboration:

  • Ages 4–6 → 1 day per week (Friday)

  • Ages 7–10 → 1 or 2 days per week (Tuesday/Wednesday + optional Thursday)

  • Ages 11–13 → 1 day per week (Monday)

Schedule Overview:

  • Monday: Ages 11–13 — Science Exploration

  • Tuesday: Ages 7–10 — Science Exploration

  • Wednesday: Ages 7–10 — Science Exploration

  • Thursday: Ages 7–10 — Mathematical Analysis (requires Tue or Wed enrollment)

  • Friday: Ages 4–6 — Science Exploration

🧪 A Typical Day

  • 9:00 AM — Meet at Park & Ride → Board the Eco-STEM Field Lab

  • Travel to a curated field location (forest, river, marsh, or coastal ecosystem)

  • Morning Field Work:

    • Wildlife biology & ecology investigations

    • Data collection and observation

    • Exploration, movement, and hands-on discovery

    • Snack break in the field

  • Midday (Field Lab):

    • Lunch on the bus

    • Science journaling & sketching

    • Diagramming and visual modeling

    • Identifying patterns from collected data

  • 2:00 PM — Return to Park & Ride for pickup

🔬 What Students Learn

Students engage deeply with:

  • Maine Ecology & Wildlife Biology

  • Scientific Method & Inquiry

  • Data Collection, Organization, and Analysis

  • Quantitative Reasoning & Problem Solving

  • Numeracy, Proportional Reasoning, and Pre-Statistics

But more importantly…

They learn how to:

  • Ask meaningful questions

  • Think critically about the natural world

  • Recognize patterns and draw conclusions

  • Communicate their ideas clearly

This is learning that builds real thinkers, not just content memorizers.

🚌 The Classroom

Our classroom is Maine’s outdoors—supported by our custom Eco-STEM Mobile Field Lab:

  • Seating for 12 students

  • Lab table for analysis and collaboration

  • Cubby storage for gear and materials

  • Onboard bathroom

This allows us to move seamlessly between field exploration and structured academic work—all in one day.

🤝 Our Methodology

  • Cohort-Based Learning (Max 12 students)
Strong relationships with peers and teachers

  • Hands-On, Immersive Experiences
Students draw, write, build, collect, and move

  • Real Environments, Real Problems
    Public lands become living laboratories

  • Process Over Memorization
Focus on reasoning, not just results

🌿 Is This Right for Your Child?

This program is designed for families who want more than worksheets and screens…

Who want their children to:

  • Be outside

  • Be curious

  • Be challenged

  • Be capable

If that’s what you’re looking for—this is it.
